My Bookshelf - want a book?

Tuesday, 1st 2005 | 11:03 AM
My life is a continual cycle of falling of the exercise wagon and crawling back on it again

All bow to Super-Marn. See what she is doing? I remain deeply in awe. I was the kid who constantly failed the inclined flexed arm-hang item of my annual physical fitness tests while in school. Ok, that, and the 2.4km run. Despite my excess weight, I could pass the standing broad jump. I excelled at the sit-up. I always did above average for sit-and-reach. But the first two items, man.

On hindsight, I guess I should've trained harder to pass those tests in school. But whether it all boiled down to teenage rebellion and other things, fitness bored me after a while. I once recounted to my cousin what I did (or was forced to do) for fitness in secondary school and I got tired just thinking of the things I did. My school (following the Education Ministry) was hyper-concerned with rising obesity levels among the girls and so, twice a week, we had to go through a mass aerobic dance session and a run before school. Then there's PE twice a week, which inevitably, involved more running (also, my school is located on an uneven area with many slopes. A PE teacher's joy.). Then there were short TAF sessions daily at recess time, plus longer sessions twice weekly after school. And I was in NCC, which meant I had physical training once a week, minimum - more often and more intensively if we were gearing up for something.

Ok see? I got tired just thinking of what I did then. Now I put in eight hours at work, largely sitting in the office, and I'm tired beyond words by the time I get home.

Maybe I should print that picture of Marn and paste it in front of me while I'm on the treadmill for inspiration.
