My Bookshelf - want a book?

Work, and life

I met Jan for dinner and general hanging out last Monday, and was asked, "So, other than being busy with work, what else has been happening in your life?"

And I had to say, "Nothing much."

Sometimes I wonder if it's my dismissing my life as boring and trivial in general that makes it sound so trivial and boring. I mean work has been all-consuming and all-encompassing, of course. But I've gotta learn to draw the line, now, do I?

For the past couple of weeks it's been stressful as heck. It's been acknowledged for a long time that I handle a larger workload than any one of the other staff who have the similar job description as I do. But of course, no one says anything about it because they are not hiring new staffto hold positions similar to the one I'm holding at the moment and if anyone notices it and mentions it they're afraid they just might have to offer to help me or something.

I don't blame them at all. I just think it sucks in general for me, but I understand where they're coming from. But what I'm hoping for isn't someone doing my job for me, or even helping me out with things. I just want some understanding. Is that so difficult?

I love my job, but the corporate world and all its corporate-ness sure sucks. I find myself having to work harder and longer and more, just to be able to keep up with people. Work-life balance? That concept is so alien in Singapore.

So the stress has been driving me to lots of working long hours, bringing work home. Leading to general exhaustion, oversleeping, which in turn cost me too much in terms of having to cab to work and so on. Even worse, missed meals because I forget meals, and then overeating and emotional eating.

This week I have started to get back on track with exercise and improving my eating habits again. I guess everyone must be so sick hearing about this, huh?

But I'm sick of being mistaken as being an older woman when I'm only 25. I need to stay motivated and just keep enduring and persisting at it.
