| 9:59 AM I had a good weekend - and this is rare. I went out with Nia on Saturday and bought some stuff and we had dinner together. My friends and I rarely have time to meet up so it was nice being able to for a change. And then the rest of the weekend, I watched DVDs. ![]() I watched this with a grain of salt. As anyone would know, I dislike (I hesitate to use a stronger term) the Bush administration but similarly I wasn't under any delusions as I watched this that this would be an unbiased account of the war. Everyone has agendas after all. That said, watching this made me sick. I was dreading having to watch scenes of 9/11 again, but Moore has edited the visual footage of that out, leaving just the audio. Anyone who could agree that the war in Iraq was right would sicken me. The thought of the civilians and soldiers that were killed on both sides. The thought how the Bush administration outright lied and lied again and again, sending all those young men and women to war based on lies, sickened me. So maybe Moore is biased. But there is no smoke without fire. I've been watching on TV a story of some US military deserters who are now in Canada and risk being arrested if they return to the States. One of them said, "you know what, if you believe in this cause, you fight for it. I don't, and that's why I'm choosing not to go there and kill innocent people for this cause." You know, Bush, maybe YOU should go and fight in this war since you really want it. Or send your daughters to fight in it, if you really believed in it. If a foreign army bulldoze their way into your already-impoverished country, causing widespread destruction and killing for their government's own selfish aims disguised in the main aim to get rid of your leader, detaining masses of your people without reason, would you be welcoming them with open arms? Watching this film really made me sick. It made me think how the people in the administration sleep well at night while knowing they caused all this. The film doesn't do all that much for me in terms of entertaining satire - Jon Stewart & the Daily Show is so much better at that. But it's thought-provoking, which I think is the main thing Moore tries to do for all his showman manoeuvres. He just wants to provoke Americans into thinking. I think it's a disgrace the country kicked up such a huge fuss over Clinton's affair with Lewinsky and yet let this pass. ![]() Ah.. chick-flick. I actually liked this movie. It wasn't perfect, but I felt the script was good in parts and Nicholson and Keaton carried the movie well. I can only wish I looked as good as Keaton when I get to her age. I wish the movie didn't lag so much although I can share the director's appreciation for long dialogue scenes between Nicholson & Keaton, and I wish the ending was a tad more believable. But otherwise I quite enjoyed it. -
