My Bookshelf - want a book?

Bright spark for now

Oh boy, have I been due for some cheering up.

Since the previous entry, I've been up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for my first-ever business trip. And back again to ever-growing pile of stuff on my desk. I should really clear those stuff, but guess what? I would need time before I'm able to do it. And between meetings I keep having to attend these days and prepare for and follow-up on, I just don't have much time to clear those piles.

One colleague of mine annoys me a lot. Let's call her Argh! because that's what she makes me feel like screaming every time she comes near me. She's a sales rep selling the products that I handle, and she drives me (and most of us) so totally up the wall! Ms M has said to me before that she finds her very driven in her work, and therefore someone like her will get frustrated when coming across someone like me, whom, let's face it, isn't as driven.

But how good is it for one person to be so driven that she annoys almost everyone else?! She asks me to do things which I acknowledge can help her do sales and thus boost the company's sales in general. But she can't seem to acknowledge that the word 'please' exists! Come to think again, she doesn't even seem to realise that every one of us in the office are all very busy with more than enough work on our hands, and her mannerisms seem to always reflect that whatever she needs us to do for her must be done at that exact moment in time when she needs it done (which is usually, NOW) without realising that each one of us has our own set of priorities and the kinds of things that she expects us to do for her always lie low in our list of priorities. For example, she expects us to make copies or print things for her, for goodness sakes! She can easily do many of those things herself. And whatever she can't and need us to, can't she try to work her requests around our schedules instead of hers? It's so infuriating as I'm trying to do things like prepare for meetings that I have to attend, and she doesn't, on top of all my other regular work stuff, she comes to me with silly requests like entering titles in the system and pricing it (both very manual and time-consuming processes). I understand that those are my job, and it's not her job to understand how overworked I am, but can't she have a little bit of sense and consideration? Geez!

I don't know whether she's purposely being oblivious to everyone else because they don't matter to her. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt by thinking that she's the eternal epitome of someone who has no EQ at all.

But that wasn't what I was so excited about when I started my entry here. I was excited about how I have internet back at home again! We got ourselves a new cable modem, and fixed both our PC and my old laptop. Now we can access the internet from both the PC and the laptop at the same time because we got ourselves some wireless networking going on. The cable guy came and set up the cable and wireless connection for one PC. Then my computer repairman (to whom I feel hopeless indebted to) came by and help me set up the real networking thing. It took him almost 3 hours, poor guy, because various problems kept cropping up, but at least we can access the internet now. And I'm happy.

My old laptop is in the boys' room. I pray to God they don't crash the thing soon. That laptop is on its last legs already.

So, in my endless days of work (I was in the office till 10pm last night) these days, I'm so tired out. At least this a bright spark for now.
