My Bookshelf - want a book?

Tuesday, 28th June 2005 | 3:34 PM
Life, as usual

I'm guessing that I offended a lot of people with my last entry. I'm sorry if my opinions and idealism offends you. If I were living in a more political country, I'd be taking the protest to the streets, but as it is, I don't and can't do that which leaves the cyberspace as my only channel. That and poor friends of mine who have to listen to me go on about it from time to time. So you know, I have frustrations, ok?

Another pet grouse of mine is about the inconveniences of the public transport system in Singapore. It is as perfect as it comes, but there are many things that can be improved which annoy the heck out of me when I really ponder about it.

But last Saturday, I moved to my new place, which is nearer to the train station and bus interchange and therefore cuts down my travelling time so that I don't have as much time to ponder about these things. The new place is smaller than my old place, although on paper it's still a 5-room flat. My mom insisted we brought over everything that wasn't nailed down, so now we're wondering where on earth we can store all the stuff we brought over. To make things worse, the minor renovation works we ordered done on our new place aren't done yet. We're still showering with a bucket and pail because the showers aren't done yet - thank God the bathrooms are tiled and the toilets are done. The kitchen cabinets aren't up yet. Our new fridge, I heard, is currently out of stock, to my parents' incredulous horror.

But I now am on the top floor of the block instead of the 4th floor. There's quite a view. It's all of the industrial area, but hey, better than nothing. Also, living so close to the town centre means more noise, which is what I'm getting used to. And living so close to the industrial area means more air pollution, again, takes getting used to. And the housing board wonders why people don't wanna live in this area? Please.

Another thing that takes getting used to is the size of the new place. It has a floor area of 110m2 or something, compared to 1382 of the previous place. That takes getting used to. I'm trying to psyche myself to think of the place as being more cosy instead of smaller or more cramped.

In other mundane news, I'm getting the hang of flossing. I started with Oral B Hummingbird (silly idea, but useful for non-flossers), then I realised that wasn't financially sustainable so I taught myself how to floss. And I ask you, why is it that each time I see an ad about flossing - whether by the dental board or some dental aid manufacturer, people always show how easy it is to floss by showing someone flossing his or her front teeth? Of course it's easy to floss your front teeth! It's flossing the back teeth that's a bitch! It took me a while to get used to it, to decide on how to position my hands so that my fingers or knuckles don't reach too far back. But I'm getting used to it.

And now, I must go, because I have work to do. It's the slowest Tuesday ever, and I'm trying to endure some major menstrual cramps right now.
